1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 large eggs, separated
1 and 1/2 cups whole milk
1/3 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
1 tablespoon sugar (for macerating strawberries)
1 cup whipped cream (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
1. In a bowl, mix sliced strawberries with 1 tablespoon of sugar. Set aside to macerate.
2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
3. In a separate bowl, beat egg yolks, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract together.
4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
5. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form, then gently fold into the batter.
6. Preheat and grease your Belgian waffle iron.
7. Pour batter into the iron and cook until golden and crisp.
8. Top each waffle with strawberries and a generous dollop of whipped cream. Serve immediately.
Notes
Fold egg whites gently for the fluffiest waffles.
Serve toppings just before eating to prevent sogginess.
