It’s the perfect easy recipe when you need quick breakfast or dessert ideas, a fun drink for Christmas brunch, or simple food ideas for festive parties. Thick, creamy, and full of nostalgic eggnog flavor, this drink is a delicious option for easy dinner desserts, holiday snack time, or anytime you’re craving a sweet, frosty sip.
Ingredients
2 cups eggnog, chilled
2 cups vanilla ice cream, slightly softened
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, plus more for topping
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
2 tablespoons rum or bourbon, or 1 teaspoon rum extract (optional)
1 cup whipped cream, for topping
2 teaspoons caramel sauce or cinnamon sugar, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. Chill the serving glasses in the freezer for 10–15 minutes so the milkshake stays thick and frosty.
2. Add the chilled eggnog, vanilla ice cream, ground nutmeg, and vanilla extract (if using) to a blender.
3. If making an adults-only version, add the rum, bourbon, or rum extract to the blender as well.
4. Blend on medium-high speed until the mixture is smooth, thick, and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides if needed.
5. Check the consistency: add a splash more eggnog to thin the milkshake or an extra scoop of ice cream to thicken, then blend again briefly.
6. Taste and adjust the flavor with an extra pinch of nutmeg or a few more drops of vanilla, blending just until combined.
7. Divide the eggnog milkshake between the chilled glasses.
8. Top each glass generously with whipped cream.
9. Garnish with a sprinkle of nutmeg and a drizzle of caramel sauce or a dusting of cinnamon sugar, if desired.
10. Add festive straws and serve immediately while the milkshakes are very cold and creamy.
Notes
For the thickest milkshake, keep both the eggnog and ice cream very cold and work quickly so they don’t melt in the blender.
To make it kid-friendly, simply leave out the alcohol and use rum extract or extra vanilla for flavor.
Chill your glasses and blender jar in advance for the creamiest texture and a milkshake that stays frosty longer.
