Description

This flavorful Cajun garlic butter sauce is a quick dinner secret weapon: a rich, easy recipe made with simple ingredients that turns basic food ideas like shrimp, steak, veggies, and pasta into restaurant-worthy meals. It’s perfect for busy nights when you need quick breakfast-for-dinner options, fast dinner ideas, or a bold healthy-ish snack to drizzle over roasted vegetables, and it fits right into your collection of easy recipes and everyday meal inspiration.

Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic minced

1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper optional

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

2 tablespoons low-sodium chicken broth or vegetable broth

1 teaspoon brown sugar or honey

1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt or to taste

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper or to taste

1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

1. Add the unsalted butter and olive oil to a small saucepan or skillet and place over low to medium-low heat. Let the butter melt slowly, stirring occasionally, until fully melted and just starting to look foamy on top.

2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 to 60 seconds, stirring constantly, until fragrant and just barely golden. Reduce the heat if the garlic starts to brown too quickly.

3. Sprinkle in the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes or cayenne if using. Stir and cook for another 30 seconds to bloom the spices and deepen their flavor.

4. Pour in the lemon juice and chicken broth or vegetable broth, then whisk or stir until everything is well combined. Add the brown sugar or honey and stir until dissolved.

5. Season the sauce with fine sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Let the mixture simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened and glossy.

6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the chopped fresh parsley. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt, pepper, or lemon juice if needed.

7. Serve the Cajun garlic butter sauce warm, drizzled over steak, shrimp, chicken, vegetables, pasta, or bread.

Notes

For a milder sauce, use a mild Cajun seasoning blend and skip the extra red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper.

If the sauce thickens too much as it cools, whisk in a teaspoon or two of warm broth or water over low heat until it loosens to your liking.

For a creamier version, stir in 2 to 3 tablespoons of heavy cream during the simmering step and cook until slightly thickened.
