Description

This easy homemade applesauce is a cozy, healthy snack or side dish that’s perfect for fall or any time of year. Made with fresh apples, it’s naturally sweet, full of flavor, and can be served warm or chilled. Whether you want a quick breakfast addition, healthy snack, or a naturally sweetened dessert, this applesauce is the perfect choice for your collection of food ideas. Ideal for meal prepping, baking, or just enjoying by the spoonful.

Ingredients

6 cups chopped apples

1/2 cup water

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

1 to 2 tablespoons sugar or sweetener (optional)

1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

1. Peel (optional), core, and chop the apples into chunks.

2. Place the apples into a large pot and add the water. Add cinnamon and lemon juice if using.

3. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cover and cook for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft.

4. Mash the apples with a potato masher for chunky sauce, or blend for a smoother texture.

5. Taste and add sugar if desired.

6. Cool and store in jars or containers. Refrigerate for up to 7 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes

Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for best flavor.

Skip the sugar if your apples are naturally sweet enough.

For long-term storage, freeze in small containers or silicone molds.
