Description
Creamy, tangy, and speckled with crumbles of savory blue cheese, this Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing is a classic recipe every kitchen needs. Whether you love it poured over crisp wedge salads, as a dip for wings and veggies, or spooned over grilled meats, this homemade dressing blows away anything you’ll find in a bottle. You get real, fresh blue cheese in every bite, plus a dreamy texture that’s rich but not heavy.
Ingredients
½ cup blue cheese, crumbled
½ cup mayonnaise
⅓ cup sour cream
¼ cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 small clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons chives, finely chopped
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
1. Crumble the blue cheese, mince the garlic, and finely chop the chives.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise and sour cream until smooth.
3. Add buttermilk and lemon juice, whisking to combine and thin the dressing.
4. Fold in the blue cheese. For a chunky texture, leave some pieces whole; for smoother dressing, mash the cheese into the base.
5. Add garlic, chives, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and taste for seasoning.
6. Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes before serving for best flavor.
Notes
For a lighter version, use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream.
Let the dressing chill to blend the flavors—30 minutes minimum, overnight is best.
If you prefer a thinner dressing, add a splash more buttermilk until you reach your desired consistency.
