Description

When the irresistible comfort of grilled cheese meets the bold, savory flavors of a classic pizza, something magical happens. These Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwiches are everything you crave in one satisfying bite: crispy golden bread, gooey mozzarella, flavorful pepperoni, and a hint of Italian seasoning. It’s like a slice of pizza and a grilled cheese got together and made the ultimate snack.


Ingredients

8 slices Italian bread

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

24 slices pepperoni

1/2 cup pizza sauce

2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese


Instructions

1. Spread the softened butter on one side of each of the 8 slices of Italian bread. Set them aside, buttered side down.

2. On the unbuttered side of 4 slices, layer 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce, 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella, 6 slices of pepperoni, and a light sprinkle of Italian seasoning.

3. Top each with a second slice of bread, buttered side facing out.

4. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the pan (working in batches if necessary) and grill for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.

5. Once off the heat, sprinkle the tops with grated Parmesan and an extra pinch of Italian seasoning if desired. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use thick-sliced bread like sourdough or Italian for the best crisp.

For a vegetarian version, substitute pepperoni with sliced mushrooms or bell peppers.

Store leftovers in foil and reheat in a skillet to keep them crispy.
