Ingredients
450g ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined. Form into 4–6 oval-shaped patties.
2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the patties for about 3–4 minutes per side, then remove and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions and mushrooms. Sauté until soft and lightly browned.
4. Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and stir to coat. Gradually pour in beef broth while whisking until smooth. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and bring to a simmer.
5. Return the patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over the top, cover, and simmer on low for 15–20 minutes until cooked through.
6. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Spoon gravy generously on top.
Notes
Use 80/20 ground beef for the juiciest patties.
Avoid overmixing the meat to keep the patties tender.
For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free breadcrumbs and cornstarch instead of flour.
