Whether you’re looking for a quick holiday gravy or everyday dinner ideas, this easy recipe delivers a comforting, scratch-made sauce with just a few ingredients. Perfect for easy dinners, quick Thanksgiving prep, or cozy food ideas.

Ingredients

0.25 cup unsalted butter

0.25 cup all-purpose flour

2 cups turkey drippings or turkey broth

0.5 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme or rosemary

0.25 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

0.25 teaspoon black pepper (adjust to taste)

2 tablespoons heavy cream (optional)

1 tablespoon white wine (optional, alternative to cream)

Instructions

1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 0.25 cup unsalted butter.

2. Whisk in 0.25 cup all-purpose flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 2–3 minutes until golden and bubbly.

3. Slowly whisk in 2 cups turkey drippings or broth, continuing to whisk to prevent lumps.

4. Bring to a simmer and cook 5–7 minutes until thickened, stirring frequently.

5. Stir in 0.5 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme or rosemary.

6. Season with 0.25 teaspoon salt and 0.25 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste.

7. Optional: Stir in 2 tablespoons heavy cream for a creamier texture or 1 tablespoon white wine for brightness.

8. Simmer 1 more minute if wine was added, then remove from heat and serve.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend.

Use low-sodium broth if not using drippings to control saltiness.

Gravy thickens as it cools—add a splash of broth to reheat smoothly.
