Description

Blueberry Cream Cheese Croissant Casserole is a rich, bakery-style breakfast bake with flaky croissants, creamy pockets of sweetened cream cheese, and bursts of juicy blueberries in every bite. This easy recipe is perfect for a quick breakfast, holiday brunch, sweet breakfast ideas, easy dinner-for-breakfast nights, and crowd-pleasing food ideas when you want something warm, simple, and impressive.

Ingredients

6 large croissants, torn into pieces

8 ounces cream cheese, softened and cut into cubes

2 cups blueberries

4 large eggs

1 1/2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon lemon zest

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon butter, for greasing the dish

2 tablespoons powdered sugar, for garnish

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Spread half of the torn croissant pieces in the prepared dish.

3. Scatter half of the cream cheese cubes and half of the blueberries over the croissants.

4. Add the remaining croissant pieces, then top with the rest of the cream cheese and blueberries.

5. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and cinnamon until smooth.

6. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissant layers, pressing down lightly so the bread absorbs the liquid.

7. Let the casserole rest for 15 minutes so the croissants can soak up the custard.

8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

9. Cool for 10 minutes before dusting with powdered sugar.

10. Serve warm.

Notes

Use day-old croissants for the best texture because they absorb the custard without becoming too soft.

Frozen blueberries can be used straight from the freezer, though they may tint the casserole a bit more purple.

Let the casserole rest after baking so the slices hold together better and the creamy filling settles nicely.
