Description

These Easy Peppermint Patties are cool, creamy, chocolate-dipped candies with a smooth mint filling and a festive crushed candy cane topping. This easy recipe is perfect for holiday dessert trays, Christmas food ideas, quick no-bake dessert, homemade candy gifts, and sweet snack ideas when you want something refreshing, simple, and chocolatey.

Ingredients

3 3/4 cups powdered sugar

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

2 tablespoons heavy cream, plus more if needed

1 1/2 teaspoons peppermint extract

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/8 teaspoon fine salt

12 ounces semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped

1 tablespoon coconut oil or shortening

1/3 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a mixing bowl, combine powdered sugar, softened butter, heavy cream, peppermint extract, vanilla extract, and salt.

3. Mix until a thick, smooth dough forms, adding a little more cream only if the mixture feels too dry.

4. Scoop the filling into small portions, roll into balls, and flatten into round patties.

5. Place the patties on the prepared baking sheet and freeze for 20 to 30 minutes, or until firm.

6. Melt the chocolate with coconut oil or shortening in short microwave intervals, stirring until smooth.

7. Dip each chilled patty into the melted chocolate and let the excess drip off.

8. Place the coated patties back on the parchment paper and sprinkle with crushed candy canes before the chocolate sets.

9. Chill until the chocolate is firm.

10. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Notes

Use peppermint extract, not mint extract, for the classic peppermint patty flavor.

Keep the patties very cold before dipping so the chocolate coating sets smoothly.

If the filling feels sticky, add powdered sugar 1 tablespoon at a time until it becomes easy to shape.
