Description

Homemade Cherry Puff Turnovers are a flaky, golden, easy recipe filled with sweet cherry filling and finished with a simple vanilla glaze. They are perfect for a quick breakfast, easy dessert, sweet brunch treat, and one of those food ideas that looks impressive while being simple to make at home.

Ingredients

2 sheets puff pastry, thawed

1 1/2 cups cherry pie filling

1 large egg

1 tablespoon water

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Lightly flour your surface and unfold the puff pastry sheets.

3. Cut each sheet into 4 equal squares to make 8 turnovers total.

4. Spoon about 2 to 3 tablespoons cherry pie filling into the center of each square.

5. Fold each square diagonally into a triangle and press the edges closed with a fork.

6. Whisk the egg with the water and brush the tops of the turnovers with the egg wash.

7. Cut a small slit in the top of each turnover to let steam escape.

8. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until puffed and deep golden brown.

9. Let the turnovers cool for 10 minutes on a wire rack.

10. Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

11. Drizzle the glaze over the slightly warm turnovers and serve.

Notes

Keep the puff pastry cold while working so the layers bake up light and flaky.

Do not overfill the turnovers or the cherry filling may spill out during baking.

Reheat leftovers in the oven or air fryer instead of the microwave for the best texture.
