Description

This Indulgent Chocolate Pudding Cake is a warm, fudgy, easy dessert with a soft chocolate cake top and a rich pudding sauce underneath. It is a simple chocolate cake for family dessert nights, holiday food ideas, dinner ideas, easy recipe searches, and anyone craving a cozy homemade treat with pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup milk

1/3 cup melted butter

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 1/2 cups hot water

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

8 scoops vanilla ice cream, optional for serving

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease an 8-inch square baking dish.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

3. Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, then stir until a thick batter forms.

4. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.

5. In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and cocoa powder for the topping.

6. Sprinkle the cocoa-brown sugar mixture evenly over the batter, then scatter the chocolate chips on top.

7. Slowly pour the hot water over the surface without stirring.

8. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until the top is set and the sauce is bubbling underneath.

9. Let the cake rest for 10 to 15 minutes before serving warm.

10. Spoon into bowls, making sure to scoop up the pudding sauce from the bottom, and serve with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

Use very hot water and pour it gently over the top without stirring so the pudding sauce forms properly.

Let the cake rest for at least 10 minutes after baking so the sauce thickens slightly before serving.

For a deeper chocolate flavor, add a pinch of espresso powder to the dry cake ingredients.
