Description

This Simple French Onion Beef Casserole is a cozy, easy dinner packed with savory ground beef, tender egg noodles, creamy sauce, and rich onion flavor in every bite. It is the kind of easy recipe that works for busy weeknights, comfort food cravings, dinner ideas for the family, and make-ahead food ideas when you want a warm, filling meal without a lot of fuss.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

12 ounces egg noodles

10.5 ounces condensed French onion soup

10.5 ounces cream of mushroom soup

1 cup sour cream

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup shredded Swiss cheese

1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions

2 tablespoons butter

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the egg noodles until just tender, then drain and toss with the butter.

3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and fully cooked, then drain excess grease.

4. Stir the French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, garlic powder, and black pepper into the beef until smooth and well combined.

5. Add the cooked noodles to the beef mixture and stir in 1 cup mozzarella cheese and 1/2 cup Swiss cheese.

6. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

7. Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese, remaining Swiss cheese, and crispy fried onions.

8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until hot and bubbly and the cheese is melted.

9. Let the casserole rest for 5 to 10 minutes, then sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve.

Notes

Use full-fat sour cream for the creamiest texture and best flavor.

Do not overcook the noodles because they will continue to soften as the casserole bakes.

Add the crispy onions just before baking to keep the topping golden and crunchy.
