Ingredients
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
3 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
2 tablespoons strawberry jam
1 large egg
1 teaspoon water or milk
1 tablespoon powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Unfold the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut out heart shapes with a cookie cutter.
3. Place the hearts on the prepared baking sheet and lightly score a smaller heart inside each one, leaving a border.
4. Mix the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon zest until smooth.
5. Spoon the cream cheese filling into the center of each pastry heart, staying inside the scored border.
6. Arrange sliced strawberries over the cream cheese filling.
7. Whisk the egg with water or milk, then brush the pastry borders with the egg wash.
8. Bake for 14 to 18 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
9. Warm the strawberry jam slightly and brush it over the strawberries for shine.
10. Cool for 5 to 10 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar and serve.
Notes
Keep the puff pastry cold while shaping so the hearts hold their form and rise beautifully.
